Raisa Kamila was born and raised in Banda Aceh. After finishing her undergraduate degree at the Department of Philosophy at Gadjah Mada University, she continued her graduate program at Leiden University studying Colonial and Global History, through the Encompass-COSMOPOLIS scholarship scheme. During her study, other than writing short stories and essays, she also researched and worked in studies related to gender, decolonization, and popular culture.

JILF is an annual international literary festival initiated by the Literary Committee of Jakarta Arts Council (JAC). Just as JAC was built and nurtured by artists and for arts, JILF was founded by writers for the sake of literature and book industry.
