Zainab Priya Dala

Zainab Priya Dala is a writer and journalist. Her debut novel, What About Meera (2015, Penguin Random House South Africa) won first prize in the Minara Literary Awards and was longlisted for the Sunday Times Literary Awards and Etisalat Prize, UAE. She has also written for Sentinel Literary Journal Nigeria, New York Times,  the Daily Maverick, The Post, Scroll India, and The Guardian. She won first prize in the Annual Short Story Competition, Texas, USA.

Her novel The Architecture of Loss was published by Pegasus, New York (2017) in English, and Speaking Tiger Books (2017) in India and South Asia. She was awarded an Honorary Fellow in Writing, International Writers Program, University of Iowa (2016). She was the key stakeholder in securing UNESCO City of Literature Designation for Durban and she currently serves as Director of The Durban Review, UNESCO City of Literature Durban, South Africa.
