Stories from the Surroundings

In an increasingly globalized world, how can we define “local content”? Is it always stories from the author’s past and her/his home area? Even, is still there such a thing as “home”? In the context of Global South, how can we present ourselves to the outer world without exoticism—something that had been exploited widely by magic realism genre? Is “ethnographic fiction”—with typical long list of local idioms—now the only strategy to put locality into fiction?
